Ports & Docks Pontoon Access

Floating work platforms for inspections, maintenance and repairs in ports, docks, harbours and quays across the UK.

Floating Access for Ports, Docks & Harbours

FPS Pontoon Hire provides modular floating platforms for inspection, maintenance and repair work within ports, docks, harbours, basins and alongside quay walls. Platforms are configured around the work area, personnel, equipment, water conditions and operational restrictions.

FPS can provide UK-wide delivery, installation, hire and removal, with edge protection, scaffold access, work boats, safety boats and temporary works support available where required.

For regional access planning, see our Southampton pontoon hire and Cardiff pontoon hire pages. Include the port or dock location and any operational access restrictions when requesting a quote.

Typical Applications

  • Quay-wall and dock-structure inspections
  • Fenders, ladders and marine fittings
  • Maintenance and repair access
  • Surveying and structural testing
  • Operational port and harbour works

Recent Port & Dock Project

Planning, Stability & Water Safety

Platform size, working loads, positioning, restraint, access and water-safety controls are reviewed for the proposed activity. More complex arrangements can be supported by temporary works design and stability calculations.

Working Alongside Operational Quays

Port and dock work often has to fit around vessel movements, cargo operations and harbour rules. The platform position, installation times and any exclusion zones are agreed with the port or harbour authority and the principal contractor so the work does not interfere with operations.

Tides, Levels & Restraint

In tidal docks and harbours, the platform needs to rise and fall with the water while staying in position against the quay. Restraint, access ramps and gangways are planned around the tidal range, wall height, fixing points and vessel wash.

Typical Port & Dock Tasks

  • Quay wall and dock structure inspections
  • Concrete, masonry and steelwork repairs
  • Fender, ladder and fitting replacement
  • Geotechnical drilling and sampling
  • Survey and monitoring equipment support
  • Access for diving teams

Planning Your Port Project

Send us the location, drawings or photographs, the work to be carried out, the tidal or water-level range, equipment and loads, launch or craning options and any port operating restrictions. We can then review the platform size, restraint, access and any work boat or safety boat support.

Discuss Your Project

Tell us the site location, required working area, personnel, equipment, water conditions and programme and we can review a suitable solution.
