Technical Information & Engineering
Engineering-led planning, technical guidance and project support for floating pontoon access across the UK.
Technical Support for Floating Access Projects
FPS Pontoon Hire provides more than a floating platform. Commercial projects can require assessment of loading, stability, access, restraint, edge protection, water conditions, plant, scaffold, temporary works and rescue arrangements before a suitable pontoon configuration is agreed.
Our modular systems can be configured for bridge inspections, maintenance, rail, geotechnical investigations, reservoirs, demolition, watercourse works, scaffold access, plant support and other specialist work over water.
At enquiry stage we review the proposed task, work area, people and equipment, site access, water depth and flow, expected environmental conditions and the way the platform will be installed and restrained.
Technical Planning From Enquiry to Handover
The correct floating access arrangement is developed around the task, loads, site constraints and water environment — not selected from a one-size-fits-all specification.
Engineering & Specialist Design Support
Where project-specific calculations, temporary works design or independent checking are required, FPS coordinates specialist engineering input to suit the scope, design category and client requirements.
Roman Jivkov MIStructE
Chartered Structural Engineer
Experienced in structural engineering, rail, tunnelling and temporary works. Roman provides project-specific structural design and temporary works support to FPS where appropriate.
TILT Engineering & Design
Specialist Marine Civil Engineering Consultancy
Marine and coastal engineering design covering pontoons, temporary works, stability calculations, structural assessment and independent design review.
Engineering appointments and scope are confirmed on a project-by-project basis.
Usable capacity depends on platform footprint, number of layers, freeboard, load distribution, point loads and working conditions. Plant, scaffold towers, drilling rigs, generators and other concentrated loads should be identified before the platform is configured.
Where project-specific verification is required, FPS can support the temporary works process with loading information, proposed layouts, restraint considerations and stability assessment. Consultant engineers can be involved for non-standard configurations where required.
Planning can include assembly location, launch method, lifting or hand-carrying, towing, work boat positioning, spud legs or mooring, ramps and safe access onto the platform. Restricted sites can often be solved by changing the mobilisation method.
Technical planning is considered alongside RAMS, competent teams, life jackets, edge protection, rescue arrangements and safety-boat support where required.
Pricing depends on the platform configuration, hire period, transport, installation, crew, boats, access and any project-specific engineering input. Good photographs, drawings and load information help us quote accurately.
