Prepare the Access Brief Before Booking Pool-Hall Works
Ceiling decoration, lighting repairs and ventilation maintenance above a swimming pool each place different demands on temporary access. This checklist sets out the information to collect before asking FPS to review a pontoon arrangement. For the equipment and service overview, see Swimming Pool Pontoon Hire.
1. Record the Pool and Work Area
Provide the pool dimensions, a plan or photographs and the locations of the overhead tasks. Include the required working height and whether the job covers one fixed area or several positions across the pool. Identify any features that could restrict the proposed working area.
2. Describe the Task and Proposed Loads
Explain what the contractor will do, how many people need access and which tools, materials and equipment are proposed. If scaffold access is required, include its intended configuration. The whole arrangement needs to be reviewed; a platform size alone does not establish its suitability for the work.
3. Check the Route Into the Pool Hall
Include delivery access, door widths, changes of level and the route from the unloading point to the pool. Tell us about restrictions around the pool edge and any requirements set by the venue for protecting finishes and handling equipment.
4. Set Out the Maintenance Programme
Give the proposed installation, work and removal dates, available working hours and the planned pool closure arrangements. Explain whether the access needs to move between work areas and how that fits the contractor’s sequence.
5. Agree the Review Before Installation
Send the brief with the contractor’s proposed method and site requirements. FPS can then review the access options and the information still needed. Where relevant, discuss temporary works and stability calculations for the complete pontoon and scaffold arrangement.

Protecting the Pool
Pool finishes, edges and water quality need protecting while equipment is moved in and the work is carried out. Agree with the venue how equipment will come through the building, how pool edges will be protected and what cleaning is needed before the pool reopens.
