Project Overview
FPS Pontoon Hire supported the demolition of a redundant services bridge in Lincoln city centre after the structure had been identified for removal.
The demolition contractor required a floating platform beneath the bridge that could provide a working area while also helping prevent demolition debris from entering the watercourse.
The Challenge
The cast-iron bridge had to be dismantled in a controlled manner above water. The access platform therefore needed to accommodate operatives, demolition equipment and removed bridge materials while creating a broad collection area beneath the works.
FPS Pontoon Solution
FPS supplied a project-specific modular floating platform sized around the demolition zone. The platform provided a stable working base and helped contain falling debris during dismantling.
As sections of the bridge were removed, materials could be handled from the pontoon and transferred for disposal without relying solely on access from the banks.
Supporting Controlled Bridge Removal
The floating platform allowed the demolition team to work directly beneath the structure while reducing the risk of debris entering the water.

Debris and Load Planning
Demolition platforms need the weight and size of the sections being removed, how they will be handled and where they will be landed. See Demolition Pontoons – Access, Debris & Fall Protection.
