FPS Pontoon Hire supplied a modular floating access system at Stockport Grammar School, initially enabling specialist contractors to inspect and test materials above the swimming pool for asbestos.
The project
The first pontoon installation created a stable working platform over the water so the investigation could be completed safely. Testing subsequently confirmed the presence of asbestos, and the access requirement increased significantly.

Expanding the platform for safe asbestos removal
Once asbestos had been identified, the pontoon system was enlarged to cover the pool and provide a much wider working area for the licensed asbestos-removal specialists. The modular design allowed the platform to be configured inside the pool hall and adapted as the scope developed.

A stable working deck over the pool
The completed system created a broad, stable working deck above the water, allowing the specialist team to carry out the removal operation without relying on the pool surround alone. FPS Pontoon Hire supplied and installed the floating access platform; all asbestos testing and removal work was undertaken by the appointed specialist contractors.

Why a modular pontoon was suitable
- Installed inside an existing indoor pool hall
- Adaptable when the scope changed following the survey
- Provided a stable platform above the water
- Created access across a much larger area of the pool
- Supported specialist contractors without FPS undertaking the asbestos work
