Project Overview
FPS Pontoon Hire provided a modular floating access platform beneath a live road bridge over a canal to support inspection and maintenance works.
The site had limited land-based access, so the project required a stable working area over the water while allowing normal activity above the bridge to continue.
The Challenge
The main constraints included:
- Restricted access from the canal bank and towpath.
- Working beneath a live road bridge.
- The need to maintain safe over-water access for operatives and equipment.
- Minimising disruption to road and waterway users.
Fixed scaffolding or extensive road-based access would have introduced additional setup, traffic-management and programme requirements.
The FPS Solution
FPS supplied and installed a modular floating pontoon system beneath the structure, creating a stable working platform for inspection and maintenance activities.
The pontoon could be positioned directly beneath the work area and configured around the available water space. Depending on the task and site conditions, similar systems can be provided with access steps, edge protection, scaffold interfaces and project-specific temporary works arrangements.
