Project Overview
FPS Pontoon Hire was appointed to provide temporary floating access for repair works to a swing bridge on the Caledonian Canal in Inverness.
The project required safe access from the water while allowing the civil engineering team to work close to the bridge structure in a location where conventional land-based access was restricted.
The Access Challenge
Swing bridges and canal structures can present complex access constraints because the working area may be directly over water, adjacent to moving structures or positioned beyond the reach of conventional plant.
For this project, the pontoon layout had to suit the geometry of the bridge and the canal environment while providing a stable working area for the repair team.
FPS Pontoon Solution
FPS supplied and installed a modular floating platform configured around the site requirements. The system created safe over-water access for the repair works and could be positioned where the engineering team needed it.
